I was talking this evening to a friend of mine, a very good friend of mine. As you may know by now I’m looking at changing my future and leaving the Aviation World for a career that is. Well over the last couple of day’s I’ve been speaking with many of my closest friends about my decision. It’s been kind of tough trying to pick up the peices and try to figure out where I want to go. One of my BEST friends and I have been chatting back and forth. While talking with another friend, I had a realization just how good of a friend the other was.
I have been known to call people buddy, bud, pal, ect ect.
For some reason I like the term Buddy, or Bud better than a friend. To me a friend is someone you can talk with, hang out with, and share a few common interest with. A buddy has all of those characteristics, as well as being someone to share extremly personal stuff with and open your heart and mind too.
Merriam-Webster (thanks to Adam I like Definitions) says a friend is one attached to another by affection or esteem
Merriam-Webster says that a buddy is a companion or partner.
I love it when someone you know, care for, and respect says “hey buddy” when they first write you a message or see ya in person. Hey Buddy has a more personal account to it. Hey dude is alright for your friends, but hey buddy almost implies that you have know the person for years and that they are your good life long friends.
I almost look at the difference between “buddy” and “friend” as a higher level. Kind of like your too good to be a friend, instead your my buddy.
